Getting started
Activities, accountability levels, and what a check-in means.
WhereIsMyBuddy is small on purpose. The whole product is one practice, repeated, with people doing the same thing alongside you. Here’s what to know.
What is an activity?
An activity is a small daily commitment. Ten pages of reading, three pages of writing, one pull-up, five minutes of sitting. You join it. Other people join it. You all check in once a day.
You can find activities in Discover, accept invitations from friends, or create your own.
Check-ins
One tap, once a day. That’s it. You can add an optional note or photo about how it went. Notes and photos are visible to the other members of the activity and are not shared anywhere else. Someone looking at a public activity they have not joined sees that you checked in, not what you wrote.
The check-in window opens at midnight in your local timezone and closes at the next midnight. If the activity is on a non-daily frequency, the window only opens on its scheduled days.
Accountability levels
Each activity has one of two levels. Its owner picks one when creating it and can change it until someone else joins.
Gentle. Check in on the scheduled days when you can. Missing one resets your streak. Nothing else happens.
Committed. A scheduled day with no check-in counts as a miss. Misses count for 30 days, then drop off.
- 1st miss: a heads-up in your inbox
- 3rd and 4th: a warning
- 5th: you're removed, and can rejoin 7 days later with a clean slate
Leaving a Committed activity with 3 or more misses means the same 7-day wait before you can rejoin. Owners get the warnings but are never removed from their own activity.
Everyone in this activity sees your streak and your check-in notes. Only you and the owner see your misses and warnings. Your Reflect journal is only yours.
Streaks
A streak is the number of consecutive scheduled days you have checked in. It is per-member, per-activity, and visible to other members of the activity, at both levels.
There is no streak insurance. Missed days reset the streak. We don’t panic-notify you about losing one.
Discussion
Each activity has one chat thread. It is for talking about the practice itself: sharing blocks, asking questions, posting what came up. The check-in feed is what you did. Discussion is how it went.
